Hi #GGRC09 folks! It’s pretty amazing what I’m seeing/hearing/watching at this conference.

I know from talking to some of you that you’ve got things to ask, things to add, things to comment on. Here’s a space.

Some of you are very real-time/online savvy, and there’s a steady stream of great comments and quotes happening via Twitter (search #GGRC09 to see the amazing contributions by conference goers). For those of you outside the Twitter loop, please take a moment to leave comments in the “comment” box here at this site.

    Great conference, quite frankly.

I was telling Naomi Devine, Gene Miller and Bill Weaver that it’s a strange feeling for me. I’m usually on the other side of the fence (I’m usually the one giving the talk, not the one recording/commenting). I am sometimes hard-pressed not to comment on the topic while I tweet or while I write.

One element that I don’t think has been touched upon that much (other than, well, the issue of environmental justice by Majora Carter) is poverty. Also, lack of affordability in cities’ real estate has also not been brought up. I’m a bit stumped by that.

Cities ARE the right scale to act on climate change and several other issues, but the economics side of the sustainability equation does play a big role. And it’s not one that is solvable by rhetoric and whispering sweet nothings into people’s ears.

Thanks Raul. I’ve directed Gene to take relect on your comment. Glad you were there.

Noticed you went to university in Guanajuato. I was there twice last year – amazing city!
